An Alternative to Cremation... Turning the Dead into Diamonds

Having a deceased loved one turned into a precious keepsake could be seen as a sentimental idea... Swiss company Algordanza feels the same way by offering a service of compressing the ash of your loved one into truly unique diamonds.

As you would imagine it does come with a cost... $5,000 to $22,000. Up to nine diamonds can be produced depending on the amount of ash provided.
A memorial diamond is a high-quality, certified diamond created from cremated ashes of your loved one as a memorial to their unique life. Your diamond will keep the memories alive for generations. These diamonds are forever, and they can be an everlasting keepsake, remembrance, or heirloom to pass to future generations.

Most of the stones come out blue, [Algordanza CEO Rinaldo] Willy says, because contains trace amounts of boron, an element that bone formation. Occasionally, though, a diamond pops out white, yellow or close to black - Willy's not sure whyt. Regardless, he says, "every diamond from each person is slightly different. It's always a unique diamond.
