The Homemade Dams of the Mississippi Flood...

When the Mississippi River floods and rises over 56 feet (a record high), residence of the area know to take action. Some pack-up their belongings and leave and others build a protective dam surrounding their home... 
These homes in Vicksburg are all situated along the Yazoo River, a tributary of the overflowing Mississippi River, and their owners have surrounded themselves with tons of earth and sand. 
Some dam walls were higher than the house itself...!

This unfortunate homeowner's dam wasn't high enough...
