A Mysterious 200 Mile Trench on Mars.

Orcus Patera is a 200 mile long crater on Mars with a rim that rises 6,000 feet. The mysterious oblong shape and  smooth surface are not typical characteristics of a crater. What created this? Was it formed by an ancient water source...?
The European Space Agency [ESA] stated that the elliptical crater shape and smooth surface can be explained from an impact [meteor] that struck the planet at a shallow angle skipping off the surface ruling out the water theory.... we can all sleep better tonight now knowing this. [your welcome].
